Physiology

1. About the Department :

The Department of Physiology of the SIMS, Shimoga was established in the year 2006, since its establishment it has set high standards for itself. Physiology department possesses an experienced faculty involved in teaching program fulfilling the NMC norms of the undergraduate as well as postgraduate course. The Department offers various academic programs namely Medical undergraduate (MBBS), Doctor of Medicine (MD in Physiology), BSc Nursing, BSc Allied Health sciences and Paramedical courses. All the academic courses are carefully prepared and being executed keeping in mind the importance of basic and applied physiology in clinical settings. Besides teaching, faculties of the Department engage in various research studies. 

The Department has Haematology, Clinical, Amphibian and Mammalian Laboratories. A well-equipped research Lab with all research facilities helps the staff members, postgraduate students to do research work. Students have the benefit of Lecture halls with good acoustics and Audio-visual teaching aids, like overhead projectors, computers, printers, LCD projector. The departmental library has many reference books in the subject & allied specialties for the use by faculty and students. 

The department of Physiology adopts a blended approach in imparting medical education which is open to newer concepts, as well as retaining the time-tested teaching-learning principles. We use the concept of active learning and motivate students in learning, research and also encourage the active participation in extracurricular activities. There is the best student- teacher relationship.

The Department has good result outcome in UG, PG and Allied sciences and 2 PG students have secured first rank in MD Physiology in RGUHS in the yrs 2016 and 2017. The Faculty members are actively engaged in research work and have published many papers in National and International journals.

 

AIM: 

  • To provide an environment which allows the staff and students to further develop their professional skills and expertise and realize their potential as educators. 
  • To promote disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and learning that will foster the creation of new knowledge.
  • To be recognized as the foremost educational arena in physiology, preparing undergraduate and  postgraduate students to take their places as leaders in the medical and allied health professionals & academics.
  • Achieving excellence in learner-centered academic experiences that enhance health in the global community.
